About this project

In Dollow, this project focused on providing a sustainable water solution for irrigation through solar-powered technology. The initiative aimed to combat water scarcity and improve agricultural resilience, enabling farmers to meet the growing demand for food in the region.

      Scope of Work:

  • Procurement and Distribution:
    Procured 300 portable solar kits equipped with high-capacity batteries, LED lights, and USB charging ports.
    Distributed kits to households identified by NIS Foundation as being in critical need of electricity access.
  • User Training and Support:
    Conducted on-site training sessions on using and maintaining the kits.
    Provided user manuals in Somali to ensure widespread understanding and usability.
  • Monitoring and Feedback:
    Established a feedback mechanism to gather user experiences and address challenges.
    Ensured availability of replacement parts and warranty support for the kits.

Project Outcome

Over 200 families now have access to affordable, sustainable energy for lighting, communication, and small appliances. Significant reduction in household expenses previously allocated to kerosene and charging services. Enhanced safety and productivity, particularly for children studying at night and women managing household chores.
